RUNNING HEART FOUNDATION, NEW INITIATIVE IN STRATEGIC POINTS IN ROME
In the previous post I talked about my commitment for Darfur, but today I want to get knowledge of a great and important goal that I reached with ‘ Running Heart ‘, the Foundation “ONLUS” I created several years ago, designed to improve the survival of patients who are suffering from myocardial infarction and to raise public awareness on needs of the Rapid Cardiology Emergency Department .
The “Running Heart Foundation” has also been very active to spread on the territory defibrillators in both fixed locations and on board of specially equipped scooter. Many Cardiology Department have been equipped with these means, and projects for a complete coverage through defibrillators have been made in many areas such as Pavia, throughout the “Riviera Romagnola” and the “Riviera Ligure”.
And now I managed to carry through a major project: an agreement between ‘Running Heart’ and the Municipality of Rome in order to provide the capital by defibrillators that will soon be delivered in many strategic points of the city.
To present this initiative an important event in the Capitol has already taken place which enshrined the agreement between the foundation and the city of Rome.
Why do I believe that this is an important goal? Because mortality from cardiovascular disease is still very high compared to the enormous progress in this area made by medicine, and knowledge of prevention methods is still very poor. This is why I chose my friend George Clooney as a testimonial of the Foundation, so that the message could reach as many people as possible in a timely manner. Together we have pursued a stage for a general audience, consignment several years ago that, in addition to Italy, slowly, has managed to reach Spain, France Germany and England, but also United States and Japan.
And the projects put into construction of ‘Running Heart ‘ are still many: in addition to having committed in large projects such as the study and worldwide patent for a device to control the aortic pressure in case of trauma due to accident (it was estimated that the device, once released, could halve the mortality due to traumatic injury of the aorta), has initiated a project of quick Cardiology Emergency for golf courses.
Furthermore the “Running Heart Foundation” is developing a project for quick Cardiology Emergency for stadiums, already successfully tested in the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
In short, there are many projects and ideas in progress but in the meantime I am satisfied with the success of the initiative that will bring defibrillators in strategic areas of Rome, because I’m sure they could save countless lives.
