FIRST IN LINE FOR DARFUR… BRAVO GEORGE!
And how can we fail to admire him? To whom I refer?
To one of your favorite actors in the international film scene: my friend George Clooney.
Yes, because George is good in his job, admired for his appearance …. and… surprise, surprises, commitment to the weak is almost his second job.
In fact, George visited recently, in the United States, the White House, to meet President Barack Obama and speak to him obout his recent visit to Sudan and problems of that part of the world, in particular of the Darfur crisis.
And this is a topic that I care for particularly because my family and I supported at the forefront the activities of the Foundation “Not on our watch”, created by Jerry Weintraub, producer of the film Ocean’s 13, and stars such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Demon and Don Cheadle.
The purpose of the foundation is to raise the attention of Governments and public opinion on crimes against humanity being perpetrated all around the world, as well as to promote actions of economic support to humanitarian organizations operating in critical areas.
And in recent months the Foundation has focused particularly on the crisis in Darfur,a region of Sudan under siege for over two years, whose problems have reached a state of civil disaster.
My company and I have chosen to support the Foundation ‘ Not On Our Watch ‘ because it’s part of the policy we always pursued, namely, tile to our principal activity, campaigns in favors of charitable causes and in support of important humanitarian projects.
That is why a part of the collection “Belstaff”, who has walked the runway for the fashion week in Milan, has been designed in collaboration with George Clooney and the other members of the Foundation.
The important international initiative was announced at the Cannes Film Festival during a major event organized by “Belstaff”, attended by the entire cast of the film and other international guests of the show business, politics and culture.
And I can proudly say that the proceeds from the collection (more than $ 9 million, an outstanding amount) were donated to the victims of atrocities consumed each day in that area.
For the same reason we have also organized a charity dinner at the Venice Film Festival and on this occasion of international importance, which brought together the most important stars, the proceeds that we managed to collect and to devolve the Association have exceeded $ 2 million.
In short, there are many results that we have reached since 2000, when I first involved George in humanitarian initiatives making him participate in the project ‘ Running Heart ‘, which has been operating for years in order to improve the survival of patients who are suffering from myocardial infarction.
Well, I’m happy and proud to have supported the Foundation in this important project and I greatly admire George for having done so.
I believe that ours is an example that everyone should follow.
